Valerie By Shimmer Polish

*Disclosure: The product featured in this post was provided by the manufacturer for review.

I’m halfway through swatching the lovely dozen bottles of Shimmer Polish sent over to me by Cindy, and I’ve found my absolute favorite so far!

Valerie is a brown-based polish filled with flecks of orange, copper and silver glitter, along with subtle hints of a pale green as well. What I adore about this polish is the contrast that the pops of orange and pale green provide to the swatch– it is just so gorgeous! I applied one generous coat of Valerie over two thin coats of Ingrid from China Glaze.

As of now, this is definitely going to be my go-to glitter from here on out when I’m in need of a quick, glitter-ific manicure. Is it just me, or are you feeling the same way about this swatch too?

Tammy By Shimmer Polish

Here’s another beautiful Shimmer Polish swatch for you to get googly-eyed over ;) Tammy is filled with flecks of purple, silver, gold and slight hints of pink glitter. I decided to pair this beauty with a dark violet color, two thin coats of Snow Day from Confetti.

For the accent nail, I used a thin acrylic paintbrush to paint a random (very random) design in white acrylic paint onto the nail. After the paint dried, I used a texture polish, OPI Liquid Sand in Baby Please Come Home, to paint thinner strokes over the white.

I love the way this look turned out! Between Tammy and Baby Please Come Home, the manicure was filled with glitter, shimmer and sparkle– my favorite :)

Now, I have to ask: From all the Shimmer Polish swatches you’ve seen so far, which is your favorite?

Quickie Post: Happy Belated Valentine’s Day!

I knew that when I completed my “official” Valentine’s Day mani on Thursday evening, there would be a 98% chance it wouldn’t be uploaded until the following week. Well, the forecast was pretty accurate ;)

But, that just means that this weekend was jam-packed with lots of fun and love to celebrate the Valentine’s Day weekend!

For this design, I used Khaki from Love & Beauty by Forever 21 as the base, applying two coats to each nail. When the polish dried, I took a page from an old novel and tore it into pieces large enough to cover each nail fully. I soaked a cotton ball with alcohol and placed it over the piece covering my nail for about ten seconds, carefully peeling the page from my nail to reveal the text transfer. When I completed this process on all of my nails, I used a toothpick and bottle of gold glitter nail polish to write out the word ‘love’. Such a simple design, but I just love the way it turned out– it was exactly what I was hoping for!

That’s it for today– I’m a little behind on the swatching, but you’ll hear back from me soon :) I hope you had a fabulous Valentine’s Day and a wonderful weekend!

Pre-Valentine’s Day Mani(s)

Since Valentine’s Day is in just two days, it’s time I show you a couple of designs that I created last week to “practice” before I finalize my real Valentine’s Day manicure ;)

The first design I put together was a super easy-to-do dotticure; if you’re looking for something simple and not too flashy for Friday, I definitely recommend this one! I started off with two thin coats of I Gotta Blush On You from Sephora by OPI. Using a bobby pin as my dotting tool, I used a variety of polishes in various colors ranging from white to a dark fuchsia to create dots toward the cuticle of each nail.

This next design features Trisha from Shimmer Polish, a beautiful salmon-colored glitter polish with subtle flecks of orange, gold and blue. Using I Gotta Blush On You again as the base, I applied two generous coats of Trisha on top. For the accent nail, I used two thin coats of Red Flare from Orly. After the polish dried completely, I hand-painted a heart using I Gotta Blush On You, then painted on roses using the red polish, using a green polish to paint on subtle leaves.

love the dotticure, and I love the accent nail with the roses. I’m so indecisive on what I want to do for Friday– but I think I have a slight idea of what I’ll end up doing ;)

Trisha By Shimmer Polish

As Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, I figured I would start sharing some of my love-inspired manicures. Today’s swatch features Trisha from my Shimmer Polish collection, over Dangerous Affair  from Ciate and paired with a white rose design. Trisha is a fun, yet elegant glitter filled with bright red, orange, yellow, blue and purple flecks. It complemented the dark red shade of Dangerous Affair and helped to create the perfect pre-Valentine’s Day manicure :) For an accent, I added some white roses using a paintbrush:

I’m still trying to put together ideas for the perfect Valentine’s Day manicure for Friday and the weekend! I’m super stoked because I’ll be spending all of Saturday at the State Fair with my favorite people– I’m not going to deny it, I’m mostly excited for all the food ;) Whether it’s some solo R&R time with a glass of wine and chocolate-covered strawberries, or a fancy dinner with your loved one, I hope you have an amazing Friday! xo

Julia By Shimmer Polish

Last week, I asked A to help me pick a color to swatch. Thinking he was being funny, he responded with, “Icy blue pearl,” thinking I wouldn’t have such a color– but I did! Light Blue from Love & Beauty by Forever 21 is totally an icy, pearly blue:

I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to swatch another one of the colors in my Shimmer Polish collection, particularly JuliaJulia is a pretty light blue glitter-filled polish, with subtle flecks of what I can only describe as a light green glitter. It paired perfectly with Light Blue!

I was so happy with the results that I ended up wearing it much longer than usual :) Cindy really has an amazing recipe for these Shimmer Polishes, I am so in love with the three that I’ve swatched so far, and I CANNOT WAIT to show you the rest!

Quickie Post: Weekend Nail Designs

It’s been a busy week for me and I don’t want you to think that I’ve forgotten about you, so I’ve put together this quick post to highlight the designs I put together over the weekend for Chinese New Year and the Super Bowl :)

This Chinese New Year celebrates the Year of the Horse, so I paired He Red My Mind from Loreal and Luxe from Orly and added some glitter, a horse stamp and the Chinese symbol for ‘horse’.

photo 2 (3)

As for the Super Bowl, I was a little more impartial this year to the teams, but having to choose between the two, I decided to root for the Denver Broncos. I tried my very best to replicated the old Broncos logo from back before they changed it in ’97. My bronco ended up looking like a unicorn, but at least I can say I tried! It’s too bad that they didn’t end up winning, but what’s worse was how dreadfully boring the game was!

Thankfully, the work week is coming to a close, so I’ll be sure to update you on my latest Shimmer Polish swatches this weekend :) If you celebrated (or even if you didn’t!), I wish you a healthy and prosperous Chinese New Year!

Kim By Shimmer Polish

*Disclosure: The product featured in this post was provided by the manufacturer for review.

This is the second Shimmer Polish I’ve swatched since receiving my awesome nail mail last week :) Kim is a beautiful blue (both light and dark) glitter polish, with freckles of purple and silver. I chose a pretty cobalt blue as my base, two thin coats of First Mate from China Glaze, and applied two generous coats of Kim on top:

Compared to my last swatch of Jennifer, I like Kim a lot more, most likely because I chose a base color that really complements the glitter. I am really loving this line of polish, I always feel so glam when I look down at my shimmery, sparkly nails :) Between Jennifer and Kim, which glitter polish do you like best?

Jennifer By Shimmer Polish

*Disclosure: The product featured in this post was provided by the manufacturer for review.

I’m super excited to present to you the first swatch and review of Shimmer Polish! Today’s swatch is of Jennifer— can you guess why I chose to swatch that one first? ;)

I started off with a coat of Bonder from Orly as a base and followed up with two thin coats of Super Natural, also from Orly. After the coats dried completely, I applied two nice, thick coats of Jennifer, making sure that the glitter covered fully.

Isn’t it absolutely beautiful? And not to mention super sparkly! The only thing I would change about this swatch is the color I used for the base– I chose the light pink because I thought that it would bring out the pink flecks of glitter in Jennifer nicely. However, I think a darker polish, perhaps blue, would really bring out all of the the glitter (pink, orange, gold, blue & black) in Jennifer. <– Yes, it is really weird saying my name in the third person like that.

So far, I’m amazed with the Shimmer Polish line. The polish consistency is perfect, it’s not thick and lumpy as you can imagine with other glitter polishes, and the glitter applies evenly. When I removed the polish (by wrapping my nails in cotton balls soaked with nail polish remover + aluminum foil), the polish came off very easily– also something I haven’t been able to experience with other glitter polishes! With this only being my first swatch, I’m am itching to continue swatching!

Next swatch will be using Kim, so be sure to check back soon! xo

Liquid Sand Dotticure

I hope that you enjoyed your weekend– this one was such a blur for me! I’m slowly starting to catch up on these belated posts, this will be the last “themed” one for a little bit while I work on my PR posts and those special posts I told you about earlier ;)

I was trying to think of something unique last week that I could do with my nails that involved polka dots. I surveyed my nail polish collection and picked the first two things that caught my eye: Lonesome Dove from Confetti and Baby Please Come Home, an OPI Liquid Sand polish. I thought it’d be interesting to do some dotting with a textured polish for once, and I think I was right! I submitted it to Nail It! Magazine for its May/June 2014 issue, so fingers crossed the design gets picked up :)

As for those ‘special’ posts: I’m excited to say that I received an ultra-generous nail mail package last week from Shimmer Polish, with 12 bottles of pure glittery goodness! This means I’ll actually be doing 12 swatches total (rather than the 10 I said before), with two new posts introduced each week :) I’m super excited to share with you my swatches and reviews!
