Quickie Post: NYC’s Tudor City Teal

I can’t get enough of this color– I’ve used it as a base in plenty of designs before, but this time I decided to splash on a few coats on all of my nails and add some simple dotting with Orly’s Luxe, a new metallic fave :) It’s more of a seafoam green than it is a teal, but I think that’s why I love it so much! It’s such a tranquil color, it makes me think of relaxing on a hammock by the water, with closed eyes, listening to the sound of the waves settle onto the sandy shore.

First Week Of The Semester

Happy hump day! (Honestly, I never really liked how hump day sounded– but the Geico commercial with the camel in it made it cool again, lol.) I just wanted to upload a post about my nails this week, along with an update on my initial thoughts of how I think the semester is going to go.

As I mentioned in a past post, I met with the Director of Marketing for All Children’s Hospital on Monday to get the details of my internship sorted out for the semester. After meeting with her and getting introduced to the rest of the staff in the Marketing department, I am truly so excited to begin interning with all of the communications departments next week– I feel so grateful that my biggest opportunity comes just before I graduate :)

For this first impression, I painted my nails a simple, neutral color (Khaki by Love & Beauty) and donned my favorite blue lace dress, pairing it with some chocolate brown accessories:

Yesterday was my last first day of the semester! Instead of doing the V-shaped gold design over the nude base, I decided to just go with a simple vertical stripe instead (with Luxe by Orly). And how convenient, for it ended up matching one of the notebooks I purchased for this semester– hah!

So far: I think this final semester is going to be absolutely fantastic :) I have the opportunities to let ME shine through, and I hope that I am able to find myself a job I am in love with by the time that I graduate.

Hope you’re having a wonderful week yourself, so far! xo

Polished PR On Shine And Sheen!

Exciting news, and a great start to the semester ;) I recently wrote a guest post for shine and sheen, which Christina featured on the blog yesterday! She reached out to me last week in regards to exchanging guest posts based on a theme we created for one another. Since this is my first, I thought it was a great idea, and am so excited to share it with you :)

Be sure to check out her guest post on my blog as well! You can find that here :)

Guest Post: shine and sheen

I am very pleased to introduce my very first guest post on this blog, written for you by the lovely Christina over at shine and sheen :) We swapped theme ideas with one another, my theme for her being “sparkle like you mean it.” I also asked her to tell you a little bit more about herself, which you’ll find below her post.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
hello, hello! i’m christina, the girl behind the new nail blog shine & sheen. i’ve recently discovered the wonderful world of nail art, an endless source of creativity for me and i’m so excited to think up funky nail designs, instagram my photos, and plaster them up on my blog! i also like meeting other nail bloggers and polish passionate people. here are some of my likes: matthew williamson (style), zara and topshop (wardrobe), urban outfitters (shopping), benefits, mac and laura mercier (makeup), DVF (idol), new york and shanghai (to live), boracay, marrakech and paris (to travel), and my adorable french boyfriend (for all the moments in between!) – i would love to hear from you, feel free to send me a message and let’s talk nails (or fashion or travel, or whatever!) xx shine and sheen
i loved this theme – so clever and cute! one of my favorite sparkles is just fine glitter polish (silver) as it is simply so perfect (with 5 coats of course!) and for a bigger sparkle, i glued on this adorable faux-swarovski bow i found, over an OPI black as it stands out better like that. sparkle away, girls!
Floral-Printed Pumps
I had a lot of fun with yesterday’s nail design :) I was browsing through that May issue of InStyle for another fun-printed page to use for my mani, and stumbled upon this brightly colored page, featuring the trending pumps of floral fashion:
So I thought to myself, ‘Why not try these babies on…..for free?‘ {Yes, I may have giggled to myself on how cunning the idea was.} I used Wet ‘n Wild’s Sugar Coat and Sinful Colors’ Snow Me White as base colors– over the pink I did a simple gold lace stamp design and over each white nail I chose a printed pump to ‘try on’.
LOVE, pretty much.
Keep It Simple
These past couple of weeks, I’ve been doing so many different designs for so many different occasions that I decided to “keep it simple” this week. Sometimes it nice to just admire a single swatch– like NYC’s Precious Peacock:
On the downside, the polish was so sheer that it took four coats to seal in the color. But on the upside, I absolutely love the way it turned out! It’s a beautiful fusion of aqua and emerald hues, and I adore the way it complements my skin tone.
What’s your favorite polish color of the week?
Celebrating Independence
Looks like I’m able to celebrate July 4th this year after all ;) With a busy schedule, I thought I wasn’t going to have the opportunity to change up my mani from the glitter-ified look to a more patriotic one, but as luck would have it, I got off work early last night and was able to put this look together:
Red: Orly’s Shimmering Mauve with a coat of Love & Beauty’s Burgundy
White: Sinful Colors’ Snow Me White
Blue:  NYC’s Boat Basin with a coat of Love & Beauty’s Light Blue
Gold: Orly’s Luxe
…And there’s another quickie post for today, have a fabulous one! xo
Quickie Post: An Unorthodox French Manicure
I dub this a “quickie post” due to my perfectionist ways– I did this mani a little too quickly last night and it didn’t turn out quite the way I wanted it to, so I’ll be changing it today. But it wasn’t horrible either, so I wanted to share it with you first :)
Contrary to most French manicure ways, I decided to reverse the lighter/darker color combo and use a lighter color for the tip. The tip is Cookies And Cream by Ciate, the base Sage by Love & Beauty. And of course, I had to embellish the look using some Shany stamps with my usual stamping polish of choice, Rage by Orly.
Aaaaand there you have it, your quickie post read for the day. Hope you have a fabulous one! xo
Loving Him Was…
RED. As in the color of this week’s manicure ;)
Earlier this week, while waiting at CVS for a prescription to be filled, I may have killed time by walking up and down the beauty aisles, and also may have found that they were having their beauty markdowns– 50% or 75% off select items. And with a little luck, bottles of Orly polish were marked down 50% off, making the polish only $4 a bottle– what a steal!
After sorting through what they had left on the shelves, I settled for two colors that weren’t similar to anything I already own, Red Flare and Pink Chocolate.
{Orly in Red Flare | Pink Chocolate}
{Orly in Red Flare | Pink Chocolate}
This week, I chose to use Red Flare with a single coat of my favorite Love & Beauty polish that’s ever existed, Burgundy.
{Love & Beauty in Burgundy}
{Love & Beauty in Burgundy}
I love this polish because of the tiny flecks of gold that it contains– it makes the polish appear glitter-y, but it’s so easy to take off compared to actual glitter polish! So, with two coats of Red Flare + a single coat of Burgundy + some stamp selections from Shany, this Independence Day-like look resulted:
All I can really say is LOVE LOVE LOVE. I don’t think I’m ever going to want to take this design off!
